*Swiss Ambassador Commends JUST’s Academic Excellence and Explores Prospects for Cooperation*

Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) President, Prof. Khaled El-Salem, on Thursday welcomed Her Excellency Mrs. Emilija Georgieva, Ambassador of Switzerland to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, accompanied by Eng. Mufleh Al-alaween, Regional Water Diplomacy Advisor.

The meeting focused on strengthening academic and research cooperation between the university and leading Swiss institutions, particularly in areas of mutual strategic interest.

During the visit, Prof. El-Salem presented the university’s mission, vision, and academic programs, which align with Jordan’s Economic Modernization Vision. He also highlighted JUST’s future projects and ambitious plans aimed at improving student services—particularly for international students—and expanding opportunities for joint studies and research.

“JUST is committed to expanding its international partnerships to benefit students and faculty, strengthen research capacity, and promote scientific exchange that advances higher education in both Jordan and Switzerland,” El-Salem said.

Ambassador Georgieva commended the deep and distinguished relations between Jordan and Switzerland, expressing her country’s keenness to strengthen academic and scientific cooperation with Jordanian universities. She also emphasized Switzerland’s interest in consolidating its partnership with JUST, given the strong overlap in medical and engineering programs between the two sides.

She further noted that Switzerland seeks to broaden avenues of cooperation in the exchange of academic and research expertise, student scholarships, and mutual faculty visits, in a manner that contributes to elevating the standard of higher education in both countries, praising JUST’s distinguished academic reputation and its notable progress in international rankings.

As part of her visit, Ambassador Georgieva toured the Water Diplomacy Center (WDC) at JUST, where she was briefed on the center’s main programs and research activities. The discussions highlighted its contribution to advancing regional cooperation on transboundary water management, promoting the principles of water diplomacy, and building bridges of international collaboration in this vital field. The visit also showcased the center’s role in preparing students and equipping them with dialogue and negotiation skills essential for addressing shared water challenges.

In his concluding remarks, Prof. El-Salem emphasized the importance of broadening academic and research cooperation between the university and Swiss scientific institutions to further support education and research, and to foster the exchange of knowledge and expertise between the two sides.
