November 25 /// As part of its commitment to promoting public health awareness, the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences at Jordan University of Science and Technology organized activities in observance of World Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Day. The event was held in collaboration with the Department of Allied Medical Sciences – Respiratory Therapy Program, and attended by Professor Basheer Khassawneh, Vice President of the University; the Dean of the Faculty, Professor Saleem Bani Hani; along with faculty and administrative members and a number of students.
The event aimed to highlight the significance of COPD—one of the most widespread respiratory diseases that profoundly affects patients' health and quality of life. It further sought to raise awareness about the causes of the disease, ways to prevent it, methods for early detection, and strategies to reduce risk factors such as smoking and exposure to environmental pollutants. Prof.Khassawneh stated that this event reflects the university's mission to advance respiratory health and mitigate the risk factors associated with COPD. He emphasized the importance of enhancing community awareness about prevention and early diagnosis, strengthening educational programs that help improve patients' quality of life, and supporting national efforts to spread health knowledge and reduce the prevalence of chronic diseases. Prof.Bani Hani reaffirmed the university's dedication to organizing awareness-driven health events that align with global observances and contribute to expanding medical knowledge among students and the community. He highlighted the importance of increasing awareness of chronic diseases as a fundamental pillar of public health promotion and prevention. The event was coordinated by Dr. Zaid Al-Khatib and Dr. Mohammad Al-Kasasbeh, who developed the awareness program and organized its various stations to ensure the clear and effective delivery of health information. Their efforts also enhanced student engagement in the educational activities dedicated to World COPD Day.
