The Faculty of Pharmacy at Jordan University of Science and Technology organized an awareness lecture titled “Combating Antimicrobial Resistance within the One Health Approach." The lecture was delivered by Professor Tariq Maqtesh, accompanied by a delegation from the Center for Epidemic and Communicable Disease Control, and attended by several members of the academic and administrative staff, along with students from the faculty. Prof. Maqtesh discussed the concept of antimicrobial resistance and its risks to human, animal, and environmental health. He highlighted the latest global challenges associated with rising resistance rates, the threats these pose to healthcare systems, and the increasing difficulty in treating many infectious diseases. He also emphasized the significance of the One Health approach, which integrates efforts across the health, environmental, and veterinary sectors to promote the rational use of antibiotics and limit the spread of resistant microbes. He stressed that addressing this issue requires comprehensive collaboration among academic and research institutions as well as healthcare organizations. Prof. Maqtesh noted that raising awareness among students and healthcare professionals is essential for promoting healthy practices and encouraging evidence-based approaches to prescribing and using antibiotics. For his part, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy Professor Qusai Al-Balas affirmed the faculty's commitment to organizing such scientific activities, which contribute to enhancing students' knowledge and enabling them to stay informed about recent developments in public health and clinical pharmacy—aligned with the university's mission to support education, scientific research, and community service. The event concluded with an extensive discussion in which the visiting delegation answered participants' questions and inquiries. Attendees praised the importance of the lecture and its role in shedding light on one of the most pressing global health challenges.
