October 8 /// NASA Space Apps hackathon for 2024 was concluded at Jordan University of Science and Technology, which hosted its local activities at the Center of Excellence for Innovative Projects, and through which teams of innovative students competed to provide creative solutions to challenges related to space and earth sciences.
The competition aims to encourage students to innovate and think scientifically, using open data provided by NASA, and to work in a team spirit to develop future technological solutions and technical, software, or scientific projects in various fields including environmental sustainability, space exploration, and renewable energy. The three-day competition witnessed the participation of (120) female and male students representing (15) teams of university students from various academic disciplines, who worked hard to develop innovative ideas and implementable technical projects. The winning teams were announced during the closing ceremony, which was attended by Prof. Muna Abu-Dalo, Vice President of the University, Prof. Muhannad Quwaider, Director of the Center of Excellence for Innovative Projects, and a number of faculty and administrative staff and students. The first place went to the Shakey team, which included students Moatasem Al-Tamimi, Majed Junaidi, Mohammed Al-Momani, Ahmed Al-Hafi, and Ahmed Samer. The second place went to the Primis team, which included students Moanes Alawneh, Laith Obaidi, Asem Hatamleh, Hashem Shawish, Mohammed Rababa’a, and Al-Amin Sabbagh. The “Phaethon” team, which included Bana Tawalbeh, Ammar Amoush, and Dima Ghazlan, came in third place. Prof. Quwaider expressed his pride in the high level of creativity demonstrated by the participating students, noting that such events enhance students’ abilities to innovate and think critically, adding that the competition opens up broad horizons for Jordanian youth to become part of future technological solutions in facing the challenges of the era. The jury consisted of the Commissioner and Member of the Board of Commissioners/ Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, Eng. Bilal Al-Hafnawi, the Head of the Technical Department/ National Institute of Robotics and Technology, Eng. Zain Al-Samawi, and the Administrative Business Consultant, Eng. Lian Al-Salihi, in addition to Prof. Muhannad Quwaider, Director of the Center of Excellence for Innovative Projects at the University.
