On behalf of the President of Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST); Prof. Saeb Khreisat, Prof. Mohammad Ibbini, the Vice-President of the university, had inaugurated a training workshop entitled: "Raising Students' Engagement in Remote Learning Environment" which was delivered online in cooperation between the Center for E-Learning and Open Educational Resources at the university and the Queen Rania Teacher Academy (QRTA). The workshop was designed with an aim of training the faculty members on using Microsoft Office 365 applications, in particular, Microsoft Teams application to raise students' interaction with the course content, the instructor, and each other in their remote classes.
The importance of this training workshop is through its emphasis on the training on online pedagogy principles and techniques, more precisely, on how to use e-Learning applications and efficiently utilizing them to enhance teaching and learning methods used in distance learning. Furthermore, it focused on the methods for collaborative learning, active learning, online classes management, and raising students' engagement in remote learning (in its both ways; synchronous and asynchronous). The training workshop was delivered over two days, with two sessions per day.
The President, Prof. Saeb Khreisat, paid a tribute to the efforts of the faculty members to fully adapt to the emergency situation by converting the traditional educational content of their courses into interactive electronic content, and to commit all their efforts to maintain the continuity of the educational process. He also had a high praise for the efforts of the staff of the Center for E-Learning and Open Educational Resources for providing the necessary support on various services and applications as well as resolving difficulties facing the faculty members and the students.
On his part, the director of the Center for e-Learning and Open Educational Resources, Dr. Mohammad Alsmadi, emphasized the readiness of various e-Learning services at the university. He also stressed that the Center's staff has a constant willingness to continue its role through holding and organizing training workshops and providing technical support for the academic staff and the students the way in which the process of integrating e-Learning into online courses will be facilitated.
