About the Instrument

The Hysitron TI Premier Nanoindenter offers extensive out-of-the-box nanomechanical testing capabilities and is easily upgradable to keep up with evolving research requirements. This system uses proven Hysitron technology to quantitatively measure material properties and responses, such as modulus, hardness, fracture toughness, strain rate sensitivity, creep, and stress relaxation.

Measurements & Analysis

1. Quantitative Mechanical Properties

  • Hardness & Modulus
  • Creep Analysis
  • Fracture Toughness
  • Dynamic Properties (nanoDMA)

2. High-Resolution Topography

  • 3D Surface Mapping
  • Nanoscale Dimensional Metrology

3. Tribology & Surface Analysis

  • Nanoscratch
  • Friction Analysis (LFM)
  • Nanowear

 4. Testing Modes

  • In-Situ SPM Imaging
Identify topographical features indicating pre-imaging for test site specification, and the perform tests with highly-accurate positioning and placement. Acquire additional information about the deformation in post-scanning, and measure quantitative RMS Surface Roughness.

  • Nanoindentation
Measure Young’s modulus, hardness, fracture toughness and other mechanical properties via nanoindentation.

  • Nanowear
By accurately controlling the amount of load applied to a sample, different levels of wear can be observed. With a maximum load of 100 µN, Hysitron TI Premier can accurately test wear properties of various materials.

Applications

  • Semiconductors
  • Materials Science & Metallurgy
  • Thin Films & Coatings
  • Polymers & Biomaterials
  • Energy Storage
