Jordan University of Science and Technology honored the winners of the "The best electronic application to introduce the city of Irbid" competition

​December 14 /// Representing His Excellency the Minister of Education, Higher Education, and Scientific Research, Professor Azmi Muhafza, the President of Jordan University of Science and Technology, Professor Khaled Al-Salem, honored the winners of the competition for the best electronic application to introduce the city of Irbid, in the presence of the head and members of the Executive Office of the Irbid Arab Capital of Culture celebration for the year 2022.​

On this occasion, Dr. Al-Salem welcomed the participating students and winners of the competition prizes at their honoring ceremony. He said that the organization of this competition comes within the framework of the university’s participation in the celebration of Irbid, the Capital of Arab Culture for the year 2022, to introduce the city of Irbid and its scientific and cultural status, and what distinguished by its originality, knowledge, civilizational depth, historical role, and contribution. In building and modernizing the Jordanian state, adding that this competition highlights the creative side of the participants, and contributes to the advancement of the educational and cultural scene in the city.

​Al-Salem added that Jordan University of Science and Technology plays its role in supporting cultural works through activities and events that distinguish it and reflect its scientific and technical nature, indicating that the real role of universities is not limited to the educational aspect only, but is based in addition to several aspects represented by the research aspect, community service and the aspect cultural.


The student’s participation in the competition came through the creation of an electronic application to download on mobile devices to introduce the city of Irbid in various fields, including historical, archaeological, tourism, cultural, educational, health, economic, agricultural, and what Irbid is famous for in terms of handicrafts, crafts, and popular dishes.


In turn, the head of the Executive Office of the Irbid Celebration, the Arab Capital of Culture for the year 2022, Engineer Munther Batayneh, praised the role of Jordan University of Science and Technology in contributing to the development of the reality of the city of Irbid, and the scientific reputation that the university enjoys at the local and global levels and the research, scientific and expert competencies that would provide technical support for any projects Proposed by the Executive Office of the Irbid Celebration, the Arab Capital of Culture for the year 2022.


For his part, the Director of the Center of Excellence for Creative Projects at the university and the coordinator of the competition, Dr. Muhannad Qweider, said that a large group of participants from the local community and Jordanian universities submitted to the competition to build this application, and the best six of them were chosen based on criteria, including what is technical, and others related to the comprehensiveness of the application and its briefing. It meets the requirements of the competition in terms of covering the required topics in the best way, being innovative and supportive of the Arabic and English languages, and being technically scalable, fast to use, and can be downloaded on all types of mobile devices, including cellular devices and phones.


In the competition, first place went to the Irbid City application for students Osama Bassam Ahmed Al-Omari and Ammar Bassam Ahmed Al-Omari, and in second place: was the Arabella application for students Tariq Hisham Shaaban and Tawfiq Ahed Tawbeh.


The competition aims to motivate university students and benefit from their energies, creativity, and ideas in creating technological solutions in the field of smartphone applications and mobile devices.

​During the ceremony, which was attended by the two vice presidents of the university, Prof. Wael Tayfour and Prof. Ahmed Al-Ajlouni, and the university students, a video was presented to introduce the city of Irbid and the most prominent applications participating in the competition.


At the end of the ceremony, Dr. Al-Salem handed over awards to the winning teams and exchanged memorial shields.
