31 Aug 2023

The Computer Engineering department at the Faculty of Computer and Information Technology at Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) organized a workshop about the National Semiconductor Design Competition (JoSDC 2023), which was launched by the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship. It is Jordan's first-ever competition in semiconductor design that aims at advancing the digital infrastructure and platforms in the country.

His Excellency Eng. Muthanna Gharaibeh the former minister of the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship and the CEO of the Fifth Advisory Services has endorsed the competition process and said that the competition in partnership with Crown Prince Foundation, Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, and the ICT association of Jordan Int@j, will open doors for potential internship opportunities in which students will gain hands-on experience in the design and development of hardware systems.

The Dean of the Faculty of Computer and Information Technology, Dr. Munir Bani Yassin, stated that the semiconductor national competition will be an excellent opportunity for students to engage in the design of computer systems, in addition to exchanging knowledge and experiences between academics and professionals interested in the field.

Dr. Husam Qublan, the chairman of the computer engineering department and organizer of the workshop, highlights the importance of the competition on how the digital future economy is dependent on digital-chip designs and contributes to the future technology and the economic modernization vision. The workshop started with a talk presented by Dr. Raed Al-Omari from Intel about the silicon development lifecycle that explains the hardware product development stages. Then, the organizing committee of the national competition, Dr. Fadi Obeidat, and Dr. Ruba Khasawneh, discussed the competition requirements and application procedures.

Intensive training will be held in laboratories of the computer engineering department to train students on hardware design tools and guide them on the competition process. The training is a one-month program held by specialized professionals from Jordan and beyond.
