Social Responsibility is a compulsory course for all the
university students. It aims at reinforcing students’ sense of loyalty and
belonging to their society and empowering them to be future leaders with
distinctive roles in building and advancing their society. It encourages
students to work together for the sake of changing their society to the better.
Social responsibility is a national voluntary and moral duty
that draws its obligation from people’s sense of commitment on the one hand,
and the need to practice it on the other, to build a well-grounded society that
functions along a matrix of norms, ethics and positive practices that guarantee
mutual respect and responsibility. It aims at achieving the ultimate goal of raising
the awareness of all society members to contribute to their society and perform
their share of duties.
Having a sense of responsibility is one of the attributes
that every member of a society that seeks change must have. The progress of our
society depends on the drive and potentials of its members. If each member of
the society cares to carry out his or her share of responsibilities, the
society will move ahead and become a consolidated entity. One the other hand, if
its members are incapable of rising to the level of their responsibilities, an
impotent feeble society will be created that withdraws from its
responsibilities and surrenders them to other societies.
From here comes the importance of offering this course at the
university to raise the values of cooperation, giving and sacrifice for the
sake of serving our country.
