Family Scorpionidae
The pentagonal sternum is the prominent feature of
this family. Species of the genus Scorpio lack subaculear tubercle on
the telson, while present in Nebo. In the Middle East, members of this
family are not considered venomous.
According
to Vachon and Kinzelbach (1987), three subspecies of the genus Scorpio
occur in Jordan, namely: Scorpio maurus fuscus distributed
in the north, Scorpio maurus palmatus south
western Jordan and Scorpio maurus kruglovi occurring
in the Eastern Desert.
