"Environmental volunteer activity for agriculture"

​As part of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan’s celebrations of the silver jubilee of His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein assuming his constitutional powers, the Jordan University of Science and Technology took a unique initiative to contribute to preserving the environment. This initiative comes in implementation of the vision of His Majesty the King towards achieving a green Jordan within the national initiative. “Planting (10) million trees.” Hence, the Department of Basic Humanities and Scientific Sciences at the College of Arts and Sciences, in cooperation with the Agricultural Production and Agricultural Services Unit at the university, planted (1,000) trees to contribute to achieving the executive plan related to the role of Jordanian universities in planting (50,000) trees.

For his part, Professor Dr. Khaled Shawagfeh, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, expressed that this initiative comes with the participation of students in the Leadership and Social Responsibility course in the Department of Basic Humanities and Sciences, and in conjunction with this occasion that is dear to the heart of every Jordanian citizen, as this initiative is one of the most effective ways to preserve the environment. And enhancing balanced environmental systems within the framework of implementing the national policy for climate change, reducing land degradation and combating desertification. Its implementation comes within a voluntary program for the requirements of the Leadership and Social Responsibility course, as a commitment to effectively contributing to the field of environmental protection, promoting sustainable development, increasing environmental awareness, and encouraging teamwork among students.

Professor Dr. Mutawakel Obaidat, Head of the Department of Basic Humanities and Sciences, indicated that the first day of the afforestation campaign received wide participation from students of the Leadership and Social Responsibility course, which included planting (1,000) trees on the university campus as a contribution to achieving the national plan to plant (10) million trees within ten years. Professor Dr. Obaidat confirmed that planting this number of trees will have a prominent role in improving air quality, reducing global warming, and preserving biodiversity, in addition to providing an aesthetic canopy for the university campus as well.
