This course aims at acquainting the students with the theoretical background of discourse analysis. It focuses on how to discover linguistic regularities in discourse analysis, using grammatical, phonological and semantic criteria (e.g. cohesion, cataphora, inter-sentence connectivity). It also provides the students with the knowledge of how to describe language components and/or levels in terms of a number of intra-linguistic factors.
