- Program Educational Objectives
Undergraduate programs:
In series of lectures given in the general pharmacology courses and module courses, the students will be introduced to the fundamental concepts of Pharmacology including pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, mechanism of action, clinical uses, indications, contraindications, major side effects and important drug-drug interaction.
Topics include the Pharmacology of medications and their applications in the central nervous system, autonomic nervous system drugs, cardiovascular, haematopoietic and lymphatic system, endocrine, respiratory, musculoskeletal system, digestive system and urinary and reproductive system. In addition, topics include pharmacology of antimicrobial agents such as antibiotics, antiviral, antifungal, and antiprotozoal agents as well as cancer treatment.
Objectives:
1. To study the general principles of pharmacology that enables the students to use drugs properly and safely in their practice.
2. To understand the therapeutic indications, contraindications, toxic effects, and drug interactions of commonly used drugs in clinical practice.
3. To explore tools and methods used in drug evaluation and discovery culminating in clinical trials and approval of drugs.
