The aim of this course is to provide students with the knowledge necessary to design and implement an effective Performance Management (PM) system in healthcare organizations. The course focuses on the role of performance management in supporting "quality improvement" as a strategic goal of healthcare organizations. Topics include PM process; linkage of PM systems to reward system and the organization’s strategic plan; how to measure both behavior and results; various appraisal forms, rating schemes, and sources of performance information; steps involved in implementing PM systems; employee development plans; feedback systems; and linkage of PM systems to law
