Quality health care has become a worldwide goal. The current economic challenges caused by a worldwide recession have created ideal conditions for change. This course introduces students to the concepts of quality management and performance improvement as they are utilized in the field of health management. Quality management topics will cover quality management concepts and terminology, quality infrastructure, quality methodology, and principles as well as the application of evaluation techniques and outcome measures and monitoring. There will also be a discussion of quality management processes and the various quality initiatives being implemented in today's healthcare environment.
The purpose of this course is to familiarize the student with the concept of Quality, the process of Quality Improvement across the Health Care continuum and quality tools. This course will focus also on the history and evolution of quality, its terms, principles, theories, and practices.
