Soil Mechanics Laboratory

Introduction

The Soil Mechanics Laboratory of the Civil Engineering Department constructed over an enclosed area of xxx square meters. It is fully equipped and supported by highly qualified technical staff to respond to the needs of academic institutions, researchers, engineers and construction industries for testing of :

  1. Soil
  2. Rock
  3. Aggregate

Equipment

Latest state of the art equipments that are mostly fitted with computerized data collection used to perform various types of soil testing to the highest standard. Some of these machines are:

  1. Portable Shear Box  for rock
  2. BS & ACI Sieves
  3. Pocket Shear Device
  4. Pocket Pentrometer
  5. Polishing &Grinding Machine
  6. Point Load Test Apparatus
  7. Triaxial  Test Apparatus (computerized)
  8. Balances
  9. Permeability System for soil
  10. Consolidation Apparatus
  11. Sieve Shaker
  12. Slake Durability Apparatus
  13. Speedy Moister Tester
  14. Coring Machine
  15.  Direct Shear Apparatus (computerized)

Aggregate & Soil Testing

  3. Sieve   analysis(Mechanical &Hydrometer)
  4. Triaxial  Test
  5. Soil Classification
  6. Permeability test
  7. Consolidation
  8. Direct Shear Test
  9. Unconfined Compression Test
  10. Proctor Test (Standard & Modified)  Field Density Test

Rock Testing

  1. Point Load Test
  2. Direct Shear Test
  3. Slake Durability Test

 

Technical Staff

All tests are run by highly qualified engineers and technicians who are constantly supervised by experienced faculties in order to assure the compliance of these tests with international standards. Accurateness of computer generated tests results are often verified and thus considered reliable by decision-makers. Quality assurance of material testing services is maintained through periodic evaluation programs in term of checking the calibration of the equipment and upgrading them to meet the market demands.
