The Biomedical Engineering (BME) department was the first of its kind to be established in Jordan in 1998 with a vision of pioneering and excellence in BME education and research. The department has been providing hospitals, healthcare centers, universities, and research institutes in Jordan and around the world with highly qualified biomedical engineers, who are capable in various fields including biomedical Instrumentation, sensors, biomedical materials, diagnostic and therapeutic techniques, signals and image processing, biomechanics, BioMEMS, and rehabilitation engineering.
The department has sought to
continuously grow and advance, which is evident by its up to date curriculum and modern
laboratories.
In addition, the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) program in BME has been accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET,www.abet.org, since 2007, which was the first
program in Jordan to be granted such accreditation.
The curriculum of BME Department has been designed to fit the needs of the local medical and health care community as well as addressing modern trends in BME. The following programs are offered by the BME Department: B.Sc. degree in BME after completing 160 credit hours and Master of Science (MS.c) degree in BME after completing 34 credit hours.
Currently, the department has 12 faculty members, who are expert in different fields of biomedical engineering. Our goal is to graduate biomedical engineers, who meet the expectation of employers and who can pursue advanced study if they so desire. The demand for biomedical engineers in Jordan and the regions continues to increase in response to the growing health care and medical industry.
