The Faculty of Dentistry at Jordan University of Science and Technology was founded by a royal decree on the 16th of September 1983 and the first group of students was admitted in the academic year 1984/1985. The Faculty offers excellent facilities for undergraduate and postgraduate training and is developing programs for all professionals in dentistry who wish to continue their education and obtain further qualifications.
The Faculty grants Bachelor's Degrees of Dental Surgery (BDS) after successfully completing (213) credit hours (typically 5 years of study) divided into 3 academic stages: The first 2 years mainly cover basic science with courses being given in the Faculty of Science and Arts. The pre-clinical third year which prepares the students for clinical aspects of the curriculum is spent in the dental training laboratories. The courses in the 4th and 5th years are clinical and patient care is given in the teaching clinics of the Dental Teaching Center.
The Faculty grants MClinDent degrees in six specialties after the successful completion of 45 credit hours for each program. These Programs are:
1. Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics.
2. Restorative Dentistry.
6. Pediatric Dentistry.
In addition, the Faculty grants higher specialty training in seven specialties. The available higher specialty training programs are:
1. Oral Surgery.
2. Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics.
3. Restorative Dentistry.
7. Pediatric Dentistry.
The clinical training program in all the above disciplines fulfills the criteria of eligibility to set the Jordanian Dental Board Examination.
