The Department shares with the Faculty of Dentistry its overall mission to generate, disseminate, and preserve dental knowledge, and to serve the community. This is carried out through the following programs :

Community service
The educational programs in the Department include in addition to the undergraguate curriculum, a three-year master program in Periodontics, Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry. These courses are designed to prepare students to be highly qualified oral health care professionals.
The research programs are designed to contribute to the basic dental sciences as well as clinical research through students' research projects and master students' thesis.
The community service program is designed to improve the dental health and well-being of the people of the local community through providing high-quality dental care to the public in the disciplines of pediatric dentistry, orthodontics and periodontics, through undergraduate and post graduate clinics as well as consultant clinics. The Department also offers community service through dental eduactional programs carried out by undergraduates targetting the local community.
