The Department of Oral Medicine and Oral Surgery was established along with the Faculty of Dentistry in 1983. Upon initiation, it included Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology, and Periodontics. Currently, the Department consists of the following sections:

The Department of Oral Medicine and Oral Surgery is responsible for teaching and conducting research on oral sciences and diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the oral and craniofacial complex.
In addition to teaching students all basic oral and dental sciences including Oral Anatomy, Dental Anatomy and Occlusion, Oral Embryology and Histology, Oral Physiology, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiography and Research Methodology, the Department provides clinical training for undergraduate and postgraduate dental students in the various fields of Oral Medicine and Oral Diagnosis, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Oral Radiology.
Since the Bachelor of Dental Surgery is offered directly by the Faculty of Dentistry, the Department of Oral Medicine and Oral Surgery only offers postgraduate programs including:
