The Department of City Planning and Design strives to provide urban planners who are change agents in their communities. It is focused on conducting cutting-edge research that improves urban planning practices in the country and region; promoting just and inclusive settlements and environmental stewardship and enhancement, and becoming regionally and internationally recognized for its undergraduate and graduate scholars with excellence in planning methodologies and research.
Why study City Planning and Design at JUST?
· At our department, students from across the country and the region have access to explore and research diverse planning problems and creatively engage with local institutions, planners, and decision-makers. Moreover, our international research collaborations expose students to international planning experiences and opportunities.
· Our location in the North of Jordan exposes students to diverse spatial environments from refugee camps, border cities, rural villages, historical sites, national tourist locations, rapidly expanding urban areas, and environmentally protected areas.
· Our students have prepared proposals for city center revitalizations, planned greenways, proposed solutions for urban decline in rural areas, identified strategies for historic conservations, and explore affordable housing strategies.
· Our students benefit from the department's continuous collaboration with our neighbors in the Department of Architecture and the Department of Design. We also work with faculty and researchers at JUST and other public universities with diverse backgrounds in engineering, law, geography, natural resources, and public health.
