The Department of City Planning and Design is proud to welcome the first cohort of students to our Urban and Environmental Planning Engineering program—individuals who represent the next generation of innovative urban thinkers, city planners, and problem-solvers. Through rigorous training and real-world applications, they will explore key areas highlighted by Jordan’s National Urban Policy such as environmental planning, climate resiliency, transportation systems, housing policy, and more. As they progress through their studies, these future professionals will gain the skills needed to address the most pressing challenges faced by Jordanian cities today. From managing urban growth to fostering equitable development, their work will contribute directly to shaping the cities of tomorrow. To the public sector, planning professionals, and our various partners: we invite you to engage with our department. Whether through internships, collaborative projects, or community initiatives, this cohort is eager to connect with the people and industries that make cities thrive. Together, we can create impactful solutions and prepare the workforce that will lead the way in redefining urban spaces in Jordan for future generations. Announcing the Launch of Jordan’s New Urban and Environmental Planning Engineering Program! The Department of City Planning and Design is proud to announce the establishment of a pioneering Urban and Environmental Planning Engineering Program in Jordan. This program is tailored to address the unique urban and environmental challenges facing our region while equipping future professionals with the expertise to create sustainable, resilient, and inclusive cities. In response to the adverse urban and environmental challenges facing Jordan’s urban areas, this program emphasizes the intersection of planning, environmental science, policy, and social justice to tackle critical issues such as: Urban expansion and land use management Water resource sustainability and climate adaptation Transportation and infrastructure planning Heritage conservation and community development Smart and sustainable urban technologies Graduates of this program will be equipped to contribute to national and local development goals across multiple sectors, including: Government ministries (e.g., Ministry of Planning, Ministry of Environment) Municipal planning departments and local authorities Environmental consultancies and NGOs Urban development firms and real estate companies International organizations focused on sustainable development in Jordan and the region We welcome policymakers, industry leaders, and community organizations to partner with us in shaping the future of urban and environmental planning in Jordan. Together, we can empower the next generation to design cities that reflect our heritage, values, and vision for a resilient and green future. A field visit to Rabea Al-Koura Municipality to assess the current situation, attend a lecture, and provide an opportunity for students to ask questions. The visit included stops at Samoa, Deir Abi Saeed, Jenin Al-Safa, Al-Mustanbat, and Al-Mutal. Data was collected, and students were provided with the necessary information to develop a comprehensive plan for the municipality's development over the next 40 years.
