The Equine Surgery Section at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) of the Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) provides advanced surgical care for horses and serves as a regional referral center for both elective and emergency procedures.
Our facilities are purpose-built to meet the highest standards of equine healthcare and welfare. The section includes a fully equipped equine surgery suite, induction and recovery rooms with padded flooring, specialized anesthesia and monitoring equipment, and postoperative intensive care areas designed to ensure patient safety, comfort, and optimal recovery.
A dedicated team of experienced equine surgeons, anesthesiologists, clinicians, and veterinary technicians performs a wide range of soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries, including colic surgery, fracture repair, wound management, upper respiratory tract surgery, joint lavage, and tendon and ligament repair.
We follow evidence-based surgical protocols and use state-of-the-art monitoring systems to achieve the highest standards of surgical safety and clinical outcomes.
Beyond its clinical mission, the Equine Surgery Section plays an essential role in veterinary education and research. It provides hands-on training for undergraduate students and postgraduate residents in surgical techniques, anesthesia, case management, and postoperative care. The section also contributes to clinical research and case-based studies, advancing knowledge in equine surgery and promoting innovation in modern veterinary practice.
Pre-Surgical Evaluations
Each surgical case begins with a comprehensive pre-surgical evaluation to assess the horse’s overall health and fitness for anesthesia and surgery.
These evaluations include a complete physical examination, diagnostic imaging, and laboratory testing, allowing our clinicians to identify potential risks and develop a tailored surgical plan that ensures the highest level of safety and effectiveness.
Surgical Procedures
Our surgical team performs a full spectrum of elective and emergency equine procedures, including orthopedic repairs, soft tissue surgeries, and colic interventions.
All surgeries are carried out in specialized operating facilities using advanced surgical techniques and precision equipment. The team’s expertise and commitment to continual improvement help minimize complications and support successful recovery.
Post-Operative Care
Post-operative care is a cornerstone of our equine surgical service. Each patient receives continuous monitoring, pain management, and rehabilitative support throughout recovery.
Our postoperative program includes wound management, physiotherapy, nutritional support, and scheduled follow-up assessments to ensure optimal healing and return to performance.
