August 17 – Under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Alia bint Al Hussein, and in the presence of the President of Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST), Professor Dr. Khaled Al-Salem, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University organized today, Monday, in Amman, the Third International Conference on One Health and Veterinary Innovations (ICOHVI-26), with the participation of researchers, academics, and experts from several Arab and foreign countries, in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH). The conference will continue through Wednesday.

During the opening ceremony, President of the University Professor Dr. Khaled Al-Salem praised the prominent role played by Her Royal Highness Princess Alia bint Al Hussein in supporting the advancement of veterinary medicine and promoting animal health, welfare, and protection. He emphasized that Her Royal Highness's patronage of the conference reflects her continued interest in the sector and her support for efforts aimed at developing it, enhancing its status, and raising awareness of the interconnectedness of human and animal health and environmental safety.

Al-Salem noted that zoonotic and emerging diseases, antimicrobial resistance, food safety, and climate and environmental changes are interconnected issues that affect health and food security, as well as the stability of societies and their ability to confront risks. This, he stressed, requires enhanced cooperation and integration among different sectors and disciplines.

He highlighted the distinguished position of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, being the only veterinary medical faculty in Jordan, in addition to having one of the leading veterinary hospitals in the Arab region. He affirmed that the Faculty's mission extends beyond educating veterinarians to contributing to the protection of livestock resources, enhancing food safety, monitoring zoonotic and emerging diseases, and supporting public health.

For her part, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Professor Dr. Myassar Al-Akash, emphasized that the conference seeks to transform the concept of “One Health" from a scientific framework into joint action by bringing together veterinary medicine, public health, and environmental sciences, while strengthening cooperation among universities, government institutions, international organizations, and the private sector.

Al-Akash noted that the conference program includes scientific sessions, practical workshops, and an exhibition showcasing pharmaceutical, diagnostic, and technological innovations, providing participants with opportunities to exchange expertise and discuss the latest developments in areas related to One Health.

Her Royal Highness Princess Alia bint Al Hussein, accompanied by the University President, inaugurated the conference's accompanying exhibition, which features a number of veterinary companies and institutions. Her Royal Highness was briefed on the key products, services, solutions, and innovations offered by participating companies in the veterinary field and their role in supporting and developing the veterinary sector and promoting animal health and welfare.

The conference addresses a range of issues related to the One Health concept, including zoonotic and emerging diseases, antimicrobial resistance, food safety, climate and environmental changes, and innovations in diagnostics, treatment, and veterinary health. Researchers, experts, and academics are participating from Jordan, the United Kingdom, Portugal, Malaysia, Egypt, Libya, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, and Lebanon.

The opening ceremony also included a video presentation introducing the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Jordan University of Science and Technology, highlighting its academic and research journey, programs and specializations, educational and research capabilities, and its role in serving the veterinary and health sectors and advancing the One Health concept.
