A cooperation agreement between the university and the Amman Municipality in the areas of controlling stray dogs

​Today, Thursday, the Greater Amman Municipality and the Jordan University of Science and Technology signed a cooperation agreement in the areas of controlling stray dogs through training and exchanging scientific, practical and research experiences.

The agreement, signed by the Mayor of Greater Amman, Dr. Youssef Al-Shawarba, and the University President, Dr. Khaled Al-Salem, aims to joint cooperation in the field of training and developing expertise, studies and scientific research related to surgical, diagnostic and research aspects, enhancing skills and awareness of care requirements and animal rights, raising the efficiency of stray dog ​​control programs and enhancing Protection from associated joint diseases.

Al-Shawarba said that the Amman Municipality is one of the first and pioneering institutions in establishing this center in a scientific and healthy way to deal with stray dogs, based on its basic role in preserving the vital environment in all its details.

He pointed out that the signing of this agreement is a documentation of fruitful cooperation with various state institutions, especially universities, with the aim of benefiting from development and training, and blending scientific and practical expertise to advanced levels in this field.

In turn, Al-Salem praised the efforts made by the Municipality in various areas of municipal work to improve the level of services provided to the city of Amman and its citizens.

He expressed the university's readiness to enhance the reach of joint work, cooperate with the secretariat, and provide expertise in all areas of joint work.

The agreement stipulates that veterinary surgery be performed on stray dogs that the secretariat seizes and transport them to the care and shelter center of the Department of Disease Vector Control and Animal Care in the Al-Muwaqqar region, through training procedures for students of the College of Veterinary Medicine and university employees.

It also stipulates the secretariat's commitment to providing the necessary medical supplies and materials and the necessary logistical support to ensure the conduct and success of training operations, exchange of experiences, and veterinary surgery procedures.

Through its cooperation with the University of Science and Technology, the Secretariat seeks to control the increase in stray dogs and perform the necessary veterinary surgery to sterilize these dogs and follow them up in the field, in addition to contributing to the control of rabies and the common diseases associated with its spread.
