Title

Pharmacology Laboratory

Lab Description

  1. Teaching Laboratory: this laboratory is equipped with the necessarily units to train the undergraduate students on different types of experiment that demonstrate basic concept in the field of pharmacology. These include:
    • Potentiation and different route of administration (animals: mice. This experiment will test the effect of chlorpromazine on sodium thiopental sleeping time, and also the effect of three different route of administration (oral, SC, IP) on the time to onset loss of the righting reflex of sodium thiopental).
    • Drug Metabolism (animals: rats. This experiment will test the effect of Phenobarbital pretreatment on pentobarbital sleeping time).
    • Antibiotic Detection in milk by IDEXX SNAP®, IDEX ParalluxĂ” Antibiotic Test or/and DELVO test. (The equipments are available in Milk lab)
    • Drugs Preparations (ointment, cream ...etc).
    • Application and Uses of RIA Technique.
    • Application and Uses of HPLC Technique.
  2. Research Laboratory: this laboratory is equipped with advanced equipments; High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and I 125Gamma Counter.

Several studies are performed in this laboratory including drug pharmacokinetics and bioavailability, bioequivalence study, drug stability, herbal extracts, Screening of antimicrobial residues and aflatoxins and in-vitro and in-vivo efficacy of drug combinations. The graduate students are heavily involved in these techniques.
