​The Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) and the Higher Council for Science and Technology (HCST), in the presence of JUST Vice President Professor Muna Abu-Dalo and Dean of Scientific Research Professor Hayam Dalky, signed an agreement to fund an innovative research project. The project, submitted to the extraordinary session on economic modernization initiatives, is supported by the Scientific Research and Innovation Support Fund of the HCST and is titled:

"Towards the Sustainable Use of Sludge Waste Resulting from Phosphate Ore Beneficiation: Water Recovery and Solids Valorization."

The PI is Professor Mohammad Salameh Al-Harahsheh from the Faculty of Engineering at JUST, with contributions from Dr. Yazan Ahed Hussein from JUST, Professor Jalal Al-Tabbal from Al-Balqa Applied University, and Engineer Nasser Abu Aleem, retired from the Jordan Phosphate Mines Company. The project received 99,000 Jordanian dinars in funding.
The project aims to develop a suitable filtration technology for separating fine solids from wastewater generated during the phosphate ore washing process, and to develop a suitable treatment technology for the wash water for reuse. The project also aims to develop a method for producing a low-cost fertilizer from fine phosphate waste and applying it in agriculture.

The signing ceremony was attended by the Vice Dean of Scientific Research, Dr. Areen Al-Bashir, and the Director of the Office of Managing External Funds, Ms. Rania Gharaibeh.
