Overview of the Committee
In 2006, Jordan University of Science and Technology, in collaboration with King Abdullah University Hospital, established the Institutional Review Board (IRB) to safeguard the rights, safety, and well-being of participants in clinical trials conducted at King Abdullah University Hospital.
The IRB is entrusted with the responsibility of reviewing all research involving human participants, whether funded or unfunded, prior to its initiation. Its primary goal is to protect the rights, welfare, and privacy of participants. The committee has the authority to approve, reject, monitor, or request modifications to research proposals, ensuring compliance with federal regulations and institutional policies.
The committee comprises a minimum of five members from diverse backgrounds to provide a thorough review of research involving human subjects, with careful consideration of institutional, legal, scientific, and social dimensions. Furthermore, the committee must include at least one unaffiliated member and one non-scientist. The IRB also consults with various advisors who offer periodic guidance and assist in the review of protocols.
