Jordan University of Science and Technology places special emphasis on scientific research, considering it one of its most important functions and pathways to enhancing the university's academic standards and serving the community to contribute to improving the economic, living, and health standards of Jordanians.
In line with the university's strategic objectives regarding scientific research, the institution established the Deanship of Scientific Research on January 1, 1987, just six months following its inauguration. Initially, this entity encompassed both scientific research and graduate studies under one umbrella, known as the Deanship of Scientific Research and Graduate Studies. However, in 1990, these divisions were separated, resulting in the distinct establishment of the Deanship of Scientific Research and the Graduate Studies College.
Since its inception, the Deanship of Scientific Research has been pivotal in formulating policies and strategies to propel the university's research endeavors towards excellence on local, regional, and global scales. Notably, in 2016, the university achieved recognition among the top (600-651) universities worldwide, as per the QS World Rankings.
Responsibilities of The Deanship of Scientific Research:
- Implementing and organizing university policies on scientific research, providing support, and fostering its growth.
- Advancing both fundamental and applied knowledge to address contemporary challenges.
- Supporting university researchers, particularly newcomers, by offering necessary financial aid and facilitating their research endeavors.
- Enhancing the quality of education and providing essential support for research conducted by graduate students.
- Actively seeking funding opportunities for scientific research within and beyond the kingdom.
- Bridging applied research conducted at the university with industrial sectors, fostering development, and translating findings into products for societal benefit.
- Encouraging researchers to pursue innovative studies and assisting in patent registration.
- Monitoring all scientific research activities within and outside the university, addressing related matters comprehensively.
- Developing annual budgets and compiling reports on scientific research activities, along with associated studies, to showcase the university's research endeavors.
- Facilitating collaborations between university researchers and counterparts domestically and internationally to enrich scientific exploration.
- Managing financial aspects of scientific projects, both internally and externally funded, ensuring accountability through diligent monitoring and reporting.

Functions of the Deanship of Research:
- Supervision of research at the University from the point of view of planning, continuation, and stimulation.
- Orientation of research towards useful adaptations including Jordan national priorities.
- Concentration of research on issues faced by different sectors of the country.
- Attraction of foreign support for research projects undertaken by staff members.
- Building relations of cooperation and exchange of expertise with research institutions and centers national (local) and abroad.
- The patenting of inventions and their registration in order to protect the rights of the University and researchers.
- Funding of students of Graduate Studies involved in projects, research or employment therein, undertaken by staff members.
- Funding of publication of research by staff members as well as expenses incurred through participation in conferences and scientific debates at which their research is presented.
- The optimum use of available resources regarding services and facilities and their distribution among researchers.
- Follow-up of research projects and approval of expenditure.
- Regulate and control external financial support for research projects from local or international sources.
