What is UI GreenMetric?
The UI GreenMetric is a World University Ranking on green campus and environmental sustainability initiated by Universitas Indonesia in 2010. Through 39 indicators in 6 criteria, UI GreenMetric World University Rankings prudently determined the rankings by universities’ environmental commitment and initiatives.
The Green Metric Philosophy
The green metric base instruments are on a broad philosophy that encompasses the pillar of sustainability: Environmental, Social, and Economic.
The Criteria and Indicators in the Green metric
In the Green Metric the criteria that are generally considered to be of importance by universities concerned with sustainability. These include the collection of basic information of the size of the university and it’s zoning profile, whether urban, suburban, or rural. Beyond this are to see the degree of green space. The next category of information concerns with electricity consumption because of its link to carbon footprint. Then to know about transportation, water usage, waste management, setting & infrastructure, energy & climate change, and education & Research. Beyond these indicators, also to get a picture about how the university is responding to or dealing with the issues of sustainability through policies, actions, and communication.
The six criteria are:
1- Settings and Infrastructure (SI)
2- Energy and Climate Change (EC)
3- Waste (WS)
4- Water (WR)
5- Transportation (TR)
6- Education and Research (ED)
