Jordan University of Science and Technology Holds Workshop on Research Ethics in the Digital Age
The Deanship of Academic Development and Quality Assurance at Jordan University of Science and Technology organized a training workshop entitled “Research Ethics in the Digital Age in Applied Medical Sciences" on Wednesday and Thursday, 4–5/2/2026. The workshop is part of a series of accredited workshops for faculty members for academic promotion purposes. It was delivered by Professor Saleem Bani Hani, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences.
The workshop was inaugurated by Professor Mohammad Al-Hammouri, Vice Dean of Academic Development and Quality Assurance, who emphasized in his speech the importance of establishing principles of integrity and research ethics in light of rapid digital transformations. He highlighted the accompanying challenges related to the use of big data, protection of individual privacy, and ensuring the credibility and quality of scientific research. He also pointed out the university's commitment to promoting a culture of responsible research and adherence to international ethical standards.
The workshop aimed to familiarize researchers with the ethical responsibilities associated with their research performance in the digital era and to highlight key ethical challenges related to research and scientific publishing. These include data privacy and security, authorship rights, potential biases, informed consent, and intellectual property.
The workshop also included discussions and analysis of practical case studies illustrating key ethical issues faced by researchers in the context of data-driven scientific research, in addition to proposing strategies and practical guidelines to help researchers address these issues efficiently and responsibly.
The workshop emphasized the importance of promoting responsible research practices that protect individuals' rights, enhance trust in research outputs, and demonstrate the negative impact of unethical practices on the credibility of both research and academic institutions.
