The THEME of the congress is to strengthen and invest in
nursing and midwifery workforce to achieve the global health agenda including
universal health coverage.
The
congress brings together the world’s nursing and midwives leaders, practicing
nurses and midwives, policy makers, scholars, and nursing and midwifery
students to address national and international contemporary issues in nursing
and midwifery practice, policy, education, health informatics and research.
To enable nurses and midwives to fulfill their true
potential and optimize their contributions to achieve universal health
coverage and the sustainable development goals, nurses and midwives should have
a stronger voice to lead and influence Global, Regional and National health
policy to help their countries meet the pressing health challenges of the
21stcentury.
They should have stronger voice
and greater role in identifying health priorities and influencing health policy
and decision-making at all levels and along with the WHO 13th General Program of Work, the Global
Strategy on Human Resources for Health Workforce 2030, the recommendations
of the UN High Level Commission on Health Employment and Economic
Growth and its five year
action plan, as well as the global strategic directions for nursing and
midwifery 2016-2020, The “Nursing Now” Campaign and other related
WHO, ICN, ICM and STTI resolutions and programs for strengthening
the role and voice of nursing and midwifery workforce in influencing health
policy and shaping the global health agenda
