In an unprecedented initiative, the Center for E-Learning and Open Educational Resources submitted a research paper to the Educational Technologies track at the 15th International Conference on Information and Communication Systems (ICICS 2024). The paper, titled "A Taxonomy of AI-Based Assessment Educational Technologies," was reviewed and accepted by experts in the field of e-learning and educational technology.
ICICS 2024, an international conference indexed in the Scopus database, serves as a forum for scientists, engineers, and practitioners to present their latest research findings, ideas, and applications across all areas of computer technology and information sciences. Accepted papers are published in the global IEEE journal.
The research team comprises Dr. Mahmoud Hammad, the center's director, Dr. Mohammed Al-Refai, the deputy director, Engineer Wafaa Muslim, head of the E-Learning Services Department, instructional designer Sajida Maslah, and Engineer Israa Al-Faoury. The idea for the research originated from the team's extensive experience and work in instructional design and the application of educational technology to enhance the learning process. They recognized the necessity to identify tools and methods for integrating artificial intelligence into educational technologies.
The research paper proposed a classification of educational technologies specialized in learner assessment and evaluation using artificial intelligence from both research and practical perspectives. Researchers followed scientific research methods to provide a comprehensive understanding of these technologies and identify gaps in the field by reviewing published research papers and educational technologies used in the industry. Educational institutions can benefit from the results of this research by enriching electronic content with the latest technologies, best practices, and experiences in the field of AI-based assessment and evaluation, thereby enhancing interaction between students and educational material.
The significance of this specialized research lies in its ability to guide the activities of E-learning centers at Jordanian universities and support them in achieving their goals and visions by exploring and evaluating various educational curricula. Furthermore, it enriches the educational environment and enhances the capabilities of faculty members and instructional designers, both technically and pedagogically, in designing and producing interactive electronic courses.
The center emphasizes the necessity of investing in scientific research related to technology use in education due to its positive impact on advancing E-learning through optimal technology utilization. Research is considered a cornerstone in guiding the activities of E-learning centers as an integral part of university teaching structure, curriculum, and strategic planning.
