The workshop was opened by Prof. Mona Abu Dalo, Vice President of the University and Acting Director of the Center of Excellence for Innovative Projects, in the presence of the Deputy Director of the Center, Prof. Wafa Ta'an, Salwa Mousaul and Peter Heinemann from GIZ, and Engineer Hussein Abu Jabal, President of the Waste Sorting Cooperative Association. In her speech during the opening ceremony, Prof. Mona Abu Dalo emphasized that the organization of this workshop is in line with the university's strategy to promote innovation and entrepreneurship among students and empower them to become agents of positive change in society, believing that sustainable solutions begin in the classroom. She also expressed her pride in partnering with GIZ to support this vision.
The workshop, attended by university students interested in environmental and sustainability issues, combined theory and practice with the aim of empowering young people and involving them in designing innovative solutions for waste management, particularly sorting at source, which is the cornerstone of any effective recycling system. It was presented by Prof. Hani Abu Qadis from the university's Civil Engineering Department, Prof. Muhannad Qwaider from the Computer Engineering Department, and Eng. Hussein Abu Jabel, head of the Waste Sorting Cooperative Association. Participants worked on developing their projects, which focused on five strategic areas: awareness materials, container design, cartographic analysis of the university campus, data measurement and analysis, and communication with relevant private entities.
