About
As Jordan University
of Science and Technology (JUST) strives for excellence and endeavors to attain
world-class university status, sustainability has become a pivotal focus. JUST
is committed to bolstering its position as a top-ranking national university
while simultaneously elevating its global reputation.
In line with
these aspirations, sustainability has been firmly integrated into our strategic
plan for 2022-2026 (Click here for more information). To effectively realize this commitment, the university has
formulated and gained approval for a comprehensive sustainability policy. This
policy, endorsed by the Dean's Council, serves as a structured framework for
managing and orchestrating all facets deemed essential for fostering a
sustainable environment within our campus.
Background
Since its establishment
in 1986, Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) has evolved into a
prominent institution on national and regional levels. With over 30,000
students and 1750 academic staff, JUST has achieved academic excellence through
the collective efforts of its community.
JUST has always
been responsive to international developments in higher education, adapting its
policies to evolving standards. Recognizing the importance of sustainability,
the university has integrated sustainability principles into its strategies,
notably in the 2016-2020 and 2022-2026 strategies.
This
Environmental Sustainability Policy signifies JUST's commitment to responsible
stewardship of the environment. It serves as a roadmap for infusing
sustainability across all university operations. The policy addresses various
aspects of sustainability, such as land resources, research, teaching,
procurement, energy, waste, water management, and more, with the year 2019 as a
benchmark. Clear goals, implementation strategies, and key performance
indicators are outlined for each area.
Successful implementation requires the
collective efforts of the university's administration, faculty, staff, and
students. Ultimately, JUST aspires to become a sustainable, modern, and
environmentally friendly campus, contributing to a better future for all.
