Research Centers
Research Centres with a specific focus on environmental sustainability
JUST hosts four research centers with a dedicated focus on environmental sustainability (for more info, click here. These centers are run by teams of FTE staff members who are committed to advancing research in this critical area. In addition to their research activities, these centers actively contribute to the academic programs at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Through curriculum development, teaching, and supervision, they ensure that students receive comprehensive education aligned with the latest advancements in environmental sustainability.
Energy Center
The center of
energy was instituted in June 2004 to establish closer relationship between
Jordan university of Science and Technology (JUST) and different industries,
professionals, policy makers and the public. The
internal code and by laws for the center have been issued and approved by the
university council of governors, and the ministry of higher education. To learn
more about JUST Energy Center, please click here.
Water Diplomacy Center
The Center for
Water Diplomacy was inaugurated as the latest university center, which was
established at the end of 2019 and approved in 2020 as part of the Yarmouk
Future Project and with the support of the Swiss Agency for Development,
especially since the water sector is one of the most important sectors that
play a major role in the sustainable economic growth of any country. Water and
the environment represent one of the biggest challenges facing global and local
communities. As we know, water is a vital component for growth, prosperity, and
civilization, so it is not surprising that the transboundary basins host more
than half of the world's population, with countries sharing about 310 rivers
and lakes and 592 surfaces of groundwater. The Middle East and North Africa
region are one of the most water-scarce regions in the world, where the water
demand exceeds the natural amount of available water by about 20 percent due to
population growth and the deterioration of the impact of climate change on
water resources. With this contrast, it may increase significantly if it is not
treated appropriately. To learn more about Water Diplomacy Center at JUST,

Research Projects and Published Papers
At Jordan University for Science and Technology
(JUST), we are actively engaged in meaningful research projects and have
published numerous papers that contribute to the fields of sustainability,
water and wastewater management, and sustainable tourism.
Research projects
Our commitment to sustainability extends beyond research papers. We
have also partnered with UNICEF to explore innovative solutions for addressing
Jordan's water and wastewater challenges. This partnership reflects our
dedication to making a positive impact on the local community. Click here for more information.
Additionally, our involvement in projects like "Revitalization
of Sustainable Tourism Across Regions in The MEDiterranean (RESTART MED!)"
underscores our commitment to sustainable tourism development. For more
information on this project and our engagement in sustainable tourism
initiatives. Click here for more information.

Furthermore, JUST is proud to have hosted the CESARE conference, where
numerous research papers were presented and discussed. Click here for more information.
Teaching Courses and Training Programs
JUST offers a diverse range of teaching courses and training
programs related to sustainability, energy technology, and sustainable
development.
Undergraduate degree: we provide a comprehensive list of
courses focused on sustainability, which can be explored further here.
Graduate degree: JUST offers a selection of Master's degrees tailored to subjects crucial for sustainability. These programs cater to various disciplines, addressing critical aspects of environmental conservation and renewable energy. The M.Sc. in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Water Resources and Environment delves into the management and preservation of water resources, crucial for sustainable development (M.Sc. Civil Engineering). Similarly, the M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering focuses on Renewable Energy and Sustainable Development, equipping students with the knowledge and skills to harness alternative energy sources effectively (M.Sc. Mechanical Engineering). Additionally, the M.Sc. in Natural Resources & Environment, with a focus on Soil, Water, and Environment, provides insights into the interconnectedness of these vital resources and strategies for their sustainable management (M.Sc. Natural Resources & Environment).
Professional training programs: Throughout 2023, JUST orchestrated a series of workshops with a unified focus on enhancing understanding and application of environmental sustainability. These workshops, ranging from hackathons to specialized training sessions, engaged faculty, staff, and students alike in exploring diverse facets of sustainability. From delving into the intersection of technology, economics, and healthcare to leveraging information technology for environmental conservation, participants were immersed in innovative discussions and hands-on activities. Whether it was mastering programming skills for environmentally friendly solutions or exploring the potential of robotics in sustainability efforts, each workshop contributed to fostering a culture of innovation and practical problem-solving.
