Irbid, Jordan – January 22, 2025 – The Center for Sustainable Development Studies and Technology at Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST), in collaboration with Al-Hayat Center – Rased, organized a specialized training workshop on "Packaging" as part of a series of workshops implemented under the "Sustainable Solutions for Social Cohesion" project, supported by the Norwegian Embassy in Jordan.
The workshop aimed to enhance local capacities and promote community-driven initiatives, particularly among women in Irbid Governorate and Syrian and Palestinian refugees residing in Jordan. It is part of a broader set of training sessions designed to develop the skills of targeted participants and empower them to grow their small businesses.
The session was led by Engineer Sujud Al-Balawneh, who covered advanced packaging principles, emphasizing that packaging is not merely for protecting products during transportation and storage but also serves as an effective marketing tool that helps attract consumers’ attention and increase product value. The workshop explored various packaging materials, including paper, cardboard, metal, plastic, and wood, with a focus on selecting the most suitable packaging for food and craft products.
Engineer Al-Balawneh highlighted the importance of packaging in preserving food safety, protecting products from contamination and spoilage, and extending their shelf life by shielding them from environmental factors. She also emphasized that packaging provides essential consumer information, such as production and expiration dates and usage instructions. Additionally, she noted that using recyclable materials contributes to environmental sustainability.
The workshop aimed to equip participants, especially women, with the skills to enhance the marketing of their small products through effective packaging. As packaging plays a crucial role in the success of commercial projects, particularly in the craft and food product sectors, mastering proper packaging techniques can significantly boost business success.
