Training Workshop on "Packaging" at Jordan University of Science and Technology
Irbid, Jordan – January 20, 2025 – As part of the series of training workshops organized by the Center for Sustainable Development Studies and Technology at Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) in collaboration with Al-Hayat Center – Rased, a training workshop on "Packaging" was held on Monday. This workshop marks the third session in a series conducted under the "Sustainable Solutions for Community Cohesion" project, supported by the Norwegian Embassy in Jordan.
The project aims to enhance local capacities and foster entrepreneurship among targeted groups, particularly women in Irbid Governorate, as well as Syrian and Palestinian refugees residing in Jordan. This workshop is part of the ongoing efforts by the Center for Sustainable Development Studies and Technology in partnership with Al-Hayat Center – Rased.
The training was delivered by Engineer Sujud Al-Balawneh, who covered advanced packaging fundamentals and emphasized its importance as an effective marketing tool. She explained that packaging is not just about protecting products during transport and storage; it is also a key factor in attracting consumers and increasing product value. Well-designed packaging enhances a product’s appearance, making it more appealing to customers and significantly influencing their purchasing decisions.
The workshop also addressed various packaging materials, including paper and cardboard, metal, plastic, and wood, and how to select the most suitable packaging for food and handmade products.
Engineer Al-Balawneh highlighted that packaging plays a crucial role in preserving food safety by protecting products from contamination and spoilage, serving as a barrier against environmental factors such as humidity, heat, and oxygen. Additionally, packaging extends product shelf life and provides consumers with essential information such as production and expiration dates, ingredients, and usage instructions. She also stressed the role of sustainable packaging in environmental conservation by using recyclable and eco-friendly materials.
The workshop aimed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to use packaging effectively in marketing and selling their products. The ultimate goal was to empower participants—particularly women—to improve and develop their small businesses, as packaging is a key success factor in the handmade and food product markets.
