Research themes at the nanotechnology institute draws together expertise in the design, simulation, preparation, characterization and manipulation of matter with one or more dimensions at the nanometer scale (10-9 m). In this scale, material properties may no longer be the same as that of the bulk but are mostly controlled by the quantum mechanics and statistical properties of small ensembles. Nanotechnology is new and emerging field of science that triggered a revolution in technology in a diverse range of applications for various fields from drug delivery, catalysis and sensing to functional polymers nanocomposites, nano-filtration, unconventional solar cells, and smart coatings and packaging. At the nanotechnology institute, research themes are quite multidisciplinary requiring advanced experience in chemistry and synthesis, modelling and simulation, and structural analysis. To have a better understanding of the of nanoscale systems, our staff has a wide range of backgrounds in various engineering branches, physics, microbiology, chemistry and pharmacy.
