The Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at King Abdullah University Hospital offers comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services for women. There are 11 physicians on the staff of the department. Besides patient care, staff members are also involved in research and medical education.
In obstetrics, the hospital offers expert, personalized care for women before, during and after pregnancy. Over 1,500 infants are delivered in our Labor and Delivery facility yearly. The facility consists of eight labor, delivery, recovery rooms and two dedicated obstetric operating rooms, as well as a triage/monitoring area.
The Maternal and Fetal physicians specialize in high-risk pregnancies, they care for women who have obstetric, medical, surgical or genetic complications of pregnancy and can assist in consultation or co-management of complicated conditions before (pre-conception counseling) or during pregnancy. As a tertiary care centre the department in addition to providing services for women with low risk pregnancies act as a referral centre for high risk women who need special care. Fetal medicine clinic is available for early detection of fetal anomalies and fetal well being.
King Abdullah University Hospital gynecologic surgeons specialize in surgery of all types related to benign gynecologic disorders. They also offer an integrated approach to the diagnosis and treatment of cancers of the female genital tract. This involves all aspects of the surgical management of gynecologic cancer together with coordination of subsequent chemotherapy and radiation therapy, if indicated.
Gynecology also includes pelvic and reconstructive surgery specialists (urogynecologists) as well as experts in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery. Urogynaecologists provide consultation and comprehensive evaluation and diagnostic testing to women with complex pelvic floor conditions including urinary and fecal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, genitourinary fistulas, and congenital anomalies. They offer special expertise in more complex problems such as management of urinary and fecal incontinence, fistulas, vaginal prolapse and reconstructive surgery of the pelvis.
Gynecologists at King Abdullah University Hospital provide both preventive gynecological care and diagnostic services for women. Preventive care includes Pap smear testing and contraceptive counseling.
In oncology, the department includes two certified gynecologic oncologists, offering highly skilled, state-of-the art care for women with cancers of the female reproductive tract. The Department offers a comprehensive range of inpatient and outpatient services, including medical and surgical treatment for cancer or precancerous conditions of the reproductive tract. The department's physicians are experts in their fields. They provide innovative and advanced medical and surgical treatment options for patients coping with both pre-cancerous and malignant conditions, including cancer of the cervix, ovary, uterus, vulva, and vagina.
The In-Vitro Fertilization Centre manages complex problems related to infertility and related issues, including recurrent pregnancy loss, abnormal uterine bleeding, endometriosis and risk of genetic disorders in offspring.
In addition to the general gynecology services the department acts as referral centre for complicated cases. Further services include urodynamic studie, diagnostic and operative endoscopy. Further expansion in these fields is expected.
