The Engineering workshops serves the University objectives in two ways: teaching and training, and serving the local community. The Workshops which were established in 1986, consist of the following divisions:
Machine Shop Section.
Metal Forming and Welding Section.
Carpentry and Painting Section.
Glass Section
Engineering Workshops has nine different training workshops used to train students on various skills. These are:
Machining (lathe, milling, and grinding machines).
Filling and Metrology.
Electricity.
Pipe Fitting
Welding.
Sheet Metal.
Casting.
Wood Working.
Glass Blowing and Plastic Forming.
The Engineering Workshops occupy three buildings, which were designed specifically for this purpose in the master plan of the University. The total area is about 5500 square meters. The Workshops are well equipped with modern computerized equipment, and hence capable of producing precise dimensions in different materials such as metal, wood, glass, or plastic. There are about forty technical people in different specializations in the Workshops who work in training and production.
Educational Objectives
The main purpose of establishing the Engineering Workshops is to aid in the education plans for the different departments in the Faculty of Engineering. The engineering students in different departments gets their training in many practical courses in the Workshops.
Moreover, undergraduate and graduate students and faculty members in Mechanical Engineering build research models and perform experimental work in the Workshops. Because the Engineering Workshops are the most up to date in the northern part of Jordan, the University holds regular training courses on its premises for students in engineering community colleges and vocational schools, as well as for local industrial establishments in the area.
Production Objectives
The Engineering Workshops are capable of satisfying most of the Universitys requirements of furniture and metal works. In addition, special spare parts are produced in the Workshops to serve the University and local community. Also maintenance and modifications of some equipment are performed. The Workshops often make educational equipment and (pipes, bottles, etc…) needed by different chemistry laboratories.
