The Faculty of Computer and Information Technology (CIT) is a rapidly growing faculty at Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) with outstanding national and international reputation in terms of its programs, students and faculty members. CIT was established in the year of 2000 and has built an international reputation for excellence in teaching, research, and services. It started by offering two undergraduate degrees; one in computer science and the other in computer engineering. Then in 2001, the Faculty initiated a master degree program in computer engineering. These were followed by two additional programs in the year 2003. In particular, the Faculty started to offer a B.Sc. degree in computer information systems and a master degree in computer science. In 2009, two more undergraduate programs were also added to CIT, namely, a B.Sc. degree in software engineering and a B.Sc. degree in network engineering and security. Now, in 2015, the Faculty offers five undergraduate programs and two master programs in computer and information technology. The Faculty will also establish a new undergraduate program in Service Science Management and Engineering (SSME). This program will be the first in Jordan and in the region.
The Faculty has 28 specialized teaching and research labs. It is the first college in Jordan to utilize Cloud technologies in teaching and research activities. CIT bought CloudBurst from IBM in 2009 and now it is in service of teaching and research in the university. As academia and industry are inseparable in technology and engineering, CIT has pursued collaboration with renowned IT companies. As a result of this collaboration, CIT now has three academies in partnership with the industry: CISCO Academy, Oracle Academy and Microsoft Academy. In addition, CIT will establish a Center of Excellence for Service Innovation in collaboration with IBM. On the other hand, the Faculty started an industry incubators initiative in order to bridge the gap between the academia and industry. Under this initiative, the IT companies are invited to create branches or incubators in the University campus on the condition that the companies will offer training to the CIT students. Currently, we have an agreement with iHorizon Company.
The Faculty currently has over 47 faculty members, who hold Ph.D. degrees in computer and information technology; it also has over 27 faculty members who have M.Sc. degrees in computer and Information technology and a staff of over 65 employees in computer and information technology. The Faculty currently has over 2500 undergraduate students and over 130 graduate students, where 25% of these students are international. The Faculty serves all JUST students by teaching IT basic courses. The research interests of the faculty members in the Faculty vary and cover areas such as, knowledge management, data mining, databases, cloud and big data, computer networks, artificial intelligence and VLSI. Since 2009, the faculty launched a conference called the International Conference on Information and Communication Systems (ICICS). This is an international conference that is organized by the CIT Faculty at JUST. In this years' conference, 175 papers were submitted and 54 papers were accepted. The authors of these papers originate from over 30 countries.
The Faculty has ambitious plans to become a role model in Jordan and in the region. It possesses the basic ingredients for achieving this goal in terms of the qualifications of its faculty members and staff, and in terms of its IT infrastructure. The faculty of CIT is committed to maintaining the outstanding quality of its academic programs, research, faculty and graduates.
