The Department of English for Applied Studies started as a section within the Department of Humanities in 1986. At the time, it offered general English courses to all university students as compulsory service courses. Realizing the need to expand the program, the Department was established in 1996. It currently offers a BA program in English for Specific Purposes (henceforth, ESP) and an MA program in Applied Linguistics.
The Department currently has 15 faculty members (2 full, 1 associate, and 12 assistant professors) and 6 full-time lecturers. The Department of English for Applied Studies serves about 700 undergraduate and 100 graduate students.
