FACULTY OF GRADUATE STUDIES  

 

Overview

    The Faculty of Graduate Studies at Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) offers high quality academic programs. Our programs are designed to qualify students for careers in the private and governmental sectors that require solid analytical and quantitative skills. The Faculty of Graduate Studies leads in graduate’s education, developing professional and leaders in all sectors of society for regional, national and global competitiveness.

Graduates are promising as many of them demonstrate a high degree of knowledge and skills in their selected fields. Our academic staffs conduct research related to applied sciences, health sciences, medicine, dentistry, nursing, Engineering and agriculture. In addition, the faculty provides students with opportunities to gain experience by working in laboratories and clinics in their fields.

The faculty is entrusted with setting the rules and regulations related to graduate programs and degrees and pursuing the implementation of these regulations. The council of Graduate Studies is responsible for supervising and critically evaluating the existing programs. Furthermore, the Dean's office is in charge of following up the relevant graduate programs in coordination with the dean regarding the implementation of the graduate studies rules and regulations, managing the funds allocated to graduate students and monitoring the academic progress of graduate students. It is also responsible for appointing examining committees for students' theses defenses.

 

Aims

    The Faculty of Graduate Studies at Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) is aimed to achieve the following goals:

·        Facilitating research progress and promoting students excellence. 

·        Providing expertise, advice and information to faculty and students in an open and supportive environment.

·        Providing course participants with the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical experience can serve as a foundation for a career in different fields of work in either a service or an academic setting.

·        Preparing professional graduates to work in a diverse and technological environment.

·        Meeting the educational needs of our growing and culturally diverse community.

·        Supporting diversity, equity, integrity, and ethical conduct in graduate studies.

·        Promoting flexibility and accessibility of graduate studies.

·        Promoting uniform standards in degree requirements and graduate student supervision.

·        Providing educational and research opportunities that support the student in their program of study as well as assists with their professional development.

 

Vision

    Our vision is optimistic as the faculty is working towards expanding students of different nationalities and cultures. The faculty is known to be as a leader in the preparation of students who will address the needs in Jordan and in regional countries.

 The faculty vision is looking for:

·        Advance our role as a leader in accessible graduate studies world-wide.

·        Promote excellence in graduate studies.

·        Support diversity, equity, fairness, and ethical conduct in graduate studies.

·        Create a graduate study that combines scholarship, research, and creative work.

 

Missions

    The faculty commits itself to pursue relevant and appropriate academic programs and researches for global response as well as extension services for the development of competent and ethical professionals who will provide meaningful leadership. Moreover, the following missions are taken in our consideration: 

·        Ensure consistency and quality across all graduate programs.

·        Enhance the University’s ability to attract and retain outstanding students, nationally and internationally.

·        Improve and expand graduate programs.

·        Stimulate superior learning and research experiences.

·        Promote timely student success.

 

Advice For Our Graduate Students

    Students pursuing advanced degrees should consider the following as they progress through their programs of study and research.

1.     Advisor-Student Relationship

·        Your advisor is responsible for many more tasks than you ever imagined. Your advisor"s time is extremely valuable.

·        Any change in your program of study, research topic, course schedule, research lab schedule, and job search plans should be discussed and approved by your advisor.

2.     Performing Research

·        Research takes time- prepared to spend some long hours performing design, simulations, experiments, testing and writing.

·        Read the literature to obtain background for your research topic.

·        You must perform the research. The advisor will not tell you every step to make. The advisor will not only directs the general research direction.

·        If you encounter a problem in your research try to figure it out by yourself. Try approaching the problem from several different directions.

·        If you cannot find success, schedule a meeting with your advisor, be sure to have specific questions prepared.

3.     What must I do in order to graduate?

       Each master student will need to accomplish the following before graduating.

·        Complete 34 credit hours for MSc students.

·        Write and defend a thesis in accordance with department and faculty of graduate studies regulations (Thesis Track).

·        Pass the comprehensive exam (Comprehensive Exam Track).
