The Department of Civil Engineering aims at becoming a model department in terms of its students, faculty, and staff in Jordan and in the Arab world. The Department was established in 1979 at Yarmouk University with three other engineering departments, and was moved to JUST in 1986. During the first year of its foundation, only (60) students were admitted. Since then an increasing number of students is enrolled in the Department every year forming a total number of (1014) undergraduate students (BSc-Fig.pdf) and (80) graduate students (M-Fig.pdf)enrolled during the academic year 2006/2007.

After 28 years, the Department of Civil Engineering remains currently recognized as among the regional most prestigious civil engineering departments, with undergraduate and graduate programs rated among the top in Jordan and in the region.

 The department was the first in Jordan to offer a graduate program leading to M.Sc. degree. It started admitting M.Sc. students during the academicyear 1980/1981 The current number of graduate students is (80) students including students in the Ph.D. program which started eight years ago. The number of department faculty members has also grown during that period.

The Department of Civil Engineering is one of nine departments in the Faculty of Engineering at JUST. The Department currently has 35 full time teaching staff: 34 professors and 1 lecturer. Further increase is expected in the near future.

The Department employs well-qualified faculty members with many years of academic and practical experience both regionally and internationally. The expertise of the academic staff span the main disciplines of modern civil engineering including: Structural Engineering, Material Engineerng, Water Resources, Environmental Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, and Construction Engineering.

In addition, the Department has laboratory facilities that are furnished with high quality state-of-the-art equipment facilitating advanced experimental work for teaching, research and consultancy. The laboratories are also staffed with qualified and well-trained laboratory assistants and technicians.
