Vision and Mission
There is an increasing need for General Dental practitioners to carry out minor surgery for their patients. This includes minor operations for patients referred with burried wisdom teeth, cysts and the roots of teeth. Dental Surgeons also need to be able to biopsy tissue, which may be malignant. Trauma, particularly assault and road accidents, often affect the jaws and face and dentists need to be able to provide preliminary care and to refer patients for the wider help they often need. Dental surgeons also need to be able to recognize skin and alimentary tract conditions, which may first be present in the mouth. The Oral Radiology Section affiliated with the Department provides training of future dentists to be able to make radiographs and to manage their x-ray machines and other equipments. The oral radiology clinic also serves to provide requested radiographs from other clinics and from outside the Dental Health Center.
