The department of the Applied Dental Sciences was established in 1996. The department has 2 programs that have a history of graduating exceptional students who are prepared to assume leadership positions as educators, administrators, researchers, consultants and managers as well as Dental Laboratory Technicians. |

Dental Technology
The Department is well known for its cultural competency and its mix of students from various backgrounds and nationalities.
The department has 7 full time faculty members ( 3 joint appointment with the Faculty of Dentistry), and 3 hygienists. The hygienists' main responsilibility is teaching students and train them in the clinics of the Dental Teaching Center in Irbid as well as giving some courses at JUST. We have also 6 dental technicians who conduct their work at the Faculty Applied Medical Sciences laboratory that is fully equipped for teaching purposes.

The department is chaired by Dr. Zeid Al-Hourani,Assistant Professor in Dental Technology -Removable Prosthodontics.

ALLIED DENTAL SCIENCES Program: The program leads to a baccalaureate degree in dental hygiene and dental surgery assistants. It is designed to prepare the graduate to successfully enter the oral health profession of dental hygiene in any of the recognized roles of the graduates: Clinician, assistant, educator/health promoter, manager, researcher, Advocate. |
In addition to the traditional courses in dental hygiene, this Bachelor's degree in Allied Dental Sciences provides additional preparation in the provision of periodontal care and an internship in caring for rural health and geriatric populations. |

Dental Technology: This 4 years program curriculum (132 credit hours) is designed that upon completion of the program, the student is able to:
Demonstrate the ability of fabricating and supervising the fabrication of dental implement in Prosthodontics, orthodontics and Pedodontics and Maxillofacial surgery Prosthesis.
Conduct studies contributed to the advancement of dental technology.
Mechanism of acceptance of students: Incoming freshman students are admitted to the department upon his/her grade point average in Tawjihi. The minimum grade was set at 65% for Dental Technology & 65% for Allied Dental sciences by the council of higher education.
Requirements for graduation: For graduation from the Curriculum in the department a student must:
Have fulfilled the published graduation requirements of the curriculum, with all substitutions formerly approved.
Have achieved a GAP of at least 60%.
Have completed the last 2 years in residence in the department as a full-time student.
