The objectives of the department complies with the objectives of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicne:

1. To promote and sustain high standards of undergraduate and postgraduate training in veterinary medicine. 

2. To act as a national reference laboratory for the diagnosis of animal diseases. 

3. To act as a center to provide solutions to animal health problems especially related to public and environmental health. 

4. Carry out teaching and research responsibilities in areas of veterinary herd health and productivity and various aspects of veterinary public health such as food safety animal production.
