The center was established to strengthen the relationship between JUST and both the public and the private sectors.
Queen Rania Al-Abdullah Center for Environmental Science & Technology (QRACEST) mandate is to participate in the national and international efforts toward achieving sustainable development by preserving the environment and its natural resources against improper use/overuse and pollution in an integrated manner, that takes into consideration economic growth and other factors, through education, research and services.
The center’s main objectives fall within the following domains:
Education and Training
-Devise and offer work-specific training courses and vocational training modules for managers and professionals in industrial, public sector and local governing councils.
-Organize seminars, workshops and public lectures on issues pertaining to the environment.
-Promote effective environmental education programs in high schools, colleges and universities.
-Promote environmental literacy within communities.
Research
-Conduct applied research with the specific objectives of dealing with environmental needs and local problems identified either by the private or public sectors.
Services and Consultation
-Perform environmental auditing for local industry and corporation.
-Prepare and write environmental impact statements for industrial and infra-structure projects.
-Provide laboratory and consultancy services in environmental impact assessment and auditing.
-Participate in national, regional and international meetings and conferences on the environment.
