The Vision of the MENA Genomics Training Division is to establish and operate a sustained genomics training and research center that employs
high standards in operations, safety and security, and research and
development, to serve the societal needs of Jordan and its Middle Eastern and
North African neighbors and to reduce threat to the global community.
The Mission of the MENA
Genomics Training Division is to:
- Enable education of the next
generation of Middle Eastern and North African life scientists and public
health practitioners by providing a robust foundation in genomic science
through didactic and practical instruction.
- Provide the required technical
infrastructure for genomics training and research bringing state of the art molecular diagnostics and next generation sequencing capability to the MENA region, functioning as the
regional technical hub.
- Enable the application of genomics
science to the myriad of public health, medicine, agricultural and industrial demands and emerging biological threat challenges facing Jordan and the
- Integrate safe and secure life science
practices, and exercise Biorisk management training.
- Function as one technical platform in modern life sceince
to strengthen the partnerships among Jordan, MENA countries and various collaborators worldwide.
The MENA Genomics Training Division is in the final renovation stage and expecting to be running this year. Funding and advisory efforts are attributed to collaborators from the USA, Canada and the UK. Special appreciation is kindly given to Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) for their continuous role in development and training of our staff.
The core Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) Lab will be equipped with MiSeq Desktop Sequencer and bioinformatics facility.
